| While many are quick to blame the Coronavirus for all of the problems going on around us, the truth is the COVID-19 novel virus merely exposed dangerous undercurrents at the root of a "post-Christian" culture, desperately in need of God. Covid did not create the problems, it revealed them. Thanksgiving is the antidote to hopelessness. During the season let us turn our hearts toward God. |

George Washington authorized the first Thanksgiving Day in 1789, 74 years passed without another such day of thanks. Then as the CIVIL WAR raged Abraham Lincoln established an annual Holiday in American life. His Thanksgiving Proclamation is worth reading today:
US President, Abraham Lincoln wrote, "I do invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, those who are at sea, and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.

Ps 100: We enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts, His courts with praise. Before prayer becomes effective, it must overflow from a thankful heart. So don’t neglect thanksgiving in your prayer.
Pres. Abraham Lincoln began his proclamation for a “day of thanksgiving, praise, and prayer” with “It has pleased Almighty God to hearken to supplication and prayers of an afflicted people … He concludes:
“It is meet and right to recognize and confess the presence of the Almighty Father and the power of His hand equally in triumph and sorrow.”

Have you noticed that we are surrounded by a growing crowd that seems to find comfort that somehow when anything that goes wrong. It is is because…
"After all this is 2020.”
While it is nice to have a year to blame, it is not likely that on December 31st, as that great ball falls in Times Square, New York City and 2021 roars in, suddenly everything will be fine.

Your car is fixed, COVID ends, and a better job. People just burp blessings and bubble rainbows and unicorns. That is not going to happen. The "times" are in God's hands not the calendar pages. |

As the world battles unrest, COVID, and struggling with financial crisis, people are taking inventory. When you count, do not neglect the most valuable things. Our greatest resources are not reflected in a balance sheet or social media, but life itself and relationship with Him. Our greatest treasures are not in position, possession, or a bank account but treasures of the heart. We sacrifice our peace when substitute what we think we need for trusting His love and sovereignty.
| You may not have all that you “want,” but thank God, He is all that you need. He is the great I AM. Even when I feel He is all I have left, still, HE is all we need! Peter 1:3 In Him are ALL Things that pertain to LIFE ad godliness. |

Life, family and ministry ... what a precious gifts the Lord has entrusted us. I am often reminded that God’s greatest work is not just blessings we see or provision received. but protection from unseen peril. Arriving safely in Abuja, learning that 12 were been kidnapped on that road. A TC student finds a cobra in my room just before I arrive. January, in a Syrian refugee camp of the Bakaa Valley praying for sick people before we even know there is the coronavirus, God was protecting us. This Thanksgiving may I share a solemn reminder to focus on Him.
He has been better to us than we will ever know.
It is significant that Paul begins this recipe for peace with "REOICE!" & ends with thanksgiving.
Peace begins with joy, is consummated in thanks. |

This Thanksgiving, as we rejoice in health, God’s bounty, family, provision, and the boundless grace that flows from His presence, do not lose sight of the truth. The most important thing is not seeing the answer to our prayers, it is seeing the ONE who answers them
It is not just knowing our prayers are answered, it is knowing the One who answers the prayers. That is more than Thanksgiving, that is THANKS LIVING.
